Job Description
This is a part-time, temporary/seasonal position. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis to establish an applicant pool. As vacancies occur, they are filled from the pool.
SUMMARY:
The Academic Coaches are an essential element in the Learning Resources and Support mission to empower individuals to be curious and become independent innovative learners through coaching WNC students and supporting LRS functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides academic coaching in either a group or individual setting. May also provide tutoring online.
2. Assists in developing and presenting workshops.
3. Assists in developing resources to support the mission of the LRS department. Attend training and other meetings as required.
4. Adheres to all FERPA requirements.
5. Follows the National Tutoring Association Code of ethics (http://www.ntatutor.com/code-of ethics.html).
6. Maintains statistical and other records as required. Provides tours of the library.
7. Provides first-line research assistance. Assists patrons with basic computer skills. Greets patrons as they enter the library.
8. Assists patrons with basic circulation functions. Issues library cards.
9. Answers phones.
10. Re-shelves library materials.
11. Performs regular sweeps of the library to ensure clean and tidy work environment. (Study rooms, whiteboards, markers, supplies, furniture, library materials etc.)
12. Takes requests for inter-library loans. Assists patrons make copies.
13. Handles cash accurately.
14. Performs occasional data entry tasks. Assists with department projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. One year of college education and a grade of B or better in the subject area at the level of tutoring.
2. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse users, colleagues, and faculty. Effective literacy, communication and presentation skills.
3. Customer service focus. Strong work ethic.
4. Fluency in Spanish is a strength.
