Description
The City of Westerville is accepting applications for Water Safety Instructor (WSI) for the Parks & Recreation Department. This is a seasonal part-time position.
This position is open until filled. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
SUPERVISION
Water safety instructors are responsible for the planning and implementation of the Swim Lesson Program under the direction of the Aquatic Management staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK
Swim Instructors are directly responsible to the manager on duty and are responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating Swim Lesson Classes. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Maintaining required American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
Attending required WSI meetings as scheduled.
Preparing class lesson plans appropriate for all assigned classes and making adjustments daily as needed.
Implementing class lesson plans for all assigned classes.
Maintaining a safe and fun learning environment.
Assigning duties to aquatics staff.
Regularly updating parents on their child's progress in swim classes as needed or requested.
Reporting any problems or concerns regarding students, parents, equipment or pool assignments to the aquatic manager.
Organizing and maintaining swim lesson supplies and equipment.
Recording attendance for classes daily.
Completing and distributing certificates to students at the end of each session.
Practicing and encouraging fellow staff to practice customer service excellence.
Promoting and encouraging fellow staff to promote the benefits of aquatics and aquatic programs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
Individual must be at least 16 years old.
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
American Red Cross Adult and Child CPR/AED, Infant CPR and First Aid.
RETIREMENT PENSION
The City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System. The employee pension payment share is 10% of gross salary.
Personal Leave
Eligible for 24 hours of personal leave if more than 500 hours worked in previous calendar year.
Eligible for 40 hours of personal leave if more than 1000 worked in previous calendar year.
