Job Overview: LCG is seeking a UI/UX Developer to support our NIH client in designing intuitive, user-centered digital experiences for web applications, dashboards, forms, and emerging AI-enabled solutions.

This role combines UI/UX design with front-end development to help modernize applications, improve usability, and enhance user engagement across multiple initiatives. The ideal candidate will work closely with business analysts, product owners, developers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into intuitive and accessible user experiences.

The successful candidate will assist with creating wireframes, prototypes, and modern user interfaces while supporting implementation using contemporary web technologies such as React, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

This position offers an opportunity to contribute to application modernization efforts, improve user experience, and support innovative technology initiatives across NIH programs.

Key Responsibilities

UI/UX Design and User Experience

  • Design user-centered interfaces that improve usability and user satisfaction
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, mockups, and high-fidelity designs for web-based applications
  • Conduct usability reviews and recommend design improvements
  • Support modernization efforts for existing applications, forms, and dashboards
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand user needs and define user journeys
  • Ensure designs align with accessibility standards and usability best practices

Front-End Development

  • Develop responsive, modern web applications using React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Build reusable UI components and design systems to support scalable application development
  • Integrate front-end interfaces with backend AI services via RESTful APIs
  • Optimize application performance, responsiveness, and cross-browser compatibility
  • Collaborate with backend developers to ensure seamless integration of UI with AI-driven services

AI-Driven Application Integration

  • Develop and maintain responsive web interfaces using React, JavaScript, HTML, and CS

  • Assist with designing intuitive experiences for AI-powered features and workflows

  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure AI functionality is presented in a clear and user-friendly manner

Collaboration and Agile Development

  • Work closely with business analysts, developers, product owners, and stakeholders
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives
  • Support rapid prototyping and iterative design improvements.
  • Translate business requirements into user-focused design solutions

Testing, Documentation, and Training

  • Conduct usability testing and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities
  • Maintain UI/UX documentation, design standards, and style guides
  • Develop user-facing documentation and visual reference materials as needed
  • Support knowledge transfer and training efforts

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in related fields (Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, UX Design, Information Technology, Data Science, or similar)

Experience

Required:

  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in UI/UX design and front-end development
  • Experience designing and developing responsive web applications using React (or similar frameworks)
  • Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, and user interface designs using tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch
  • Experience integrating front-end applications with APIs and backend services
  • Exposure to AI/ML or Generative AI technologies (LLMs, chatbots, or automation tools)
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and usability best practices
  • Experience working with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Experience using GitHub for version control and collaborative development

Preferred:

  • Experience designing UI for AI-powered applications (chatbots, AI assistants, or search tools)
  • Experience working with Azure OpenAI, LLMs, or AI-driven platforms
  • Experience supporting federal IT environments (NIH or HHS preferred)
  • Experience implementing Section 508 accessibility standards
  • Experience with design systems and component libraries
  • Familiarity with RAG pipelines and AI-driven search interfaces

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Certified UX Professional (UX Certification)
  • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)
  • Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals (AI-900)
  • Front-End or UI/UX certifications (Google UX, etc.)

Compensation and Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $80,000 to $115,000 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and experience.
