Position Summary
Under the direction of a City of St. George Leisure Services Parks or Recreation Supervisor, assists in developing and managing various programs, events, and/or facility daily operations; assists with the development, interpretation, training, and enforcement of recreation policies and practices; provides suggestions to improve the overall execution of the facility and/or facility programs; and helps develop short-range goals and plans.
Essential Functions/Typical Working/Mental Demands/Working Conditions
(Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.)
  1. Oversees the work of part-time Park Attraction Attendants, Cashiers and Ride Operators during assigned shifts.
  2. Provides leadership by taking charge of specific parts of an assigned program, event, or facility operation.
  3. Help run youth programs, adult programs and/or special events as needed.
  4. Under the direction of the Parks or Recreation Supervisor assist in the initial and ongoing training of Park Attraction Attendants, Park Cashiers and Ride Operators.
  5. Oversees the proper use, safety, and security of all supplies, and makes requests to the Supervisor for the purchase of equipment needed.
  6. Inspects facility at the beginning of assigned shifts and reports any unsafe condition or equipment to facility management.
  7. Enforces facility rules and regulations and notifies Supervisor or Park Attraction Coordinator of recurring and/or serious infractions.
  8. Assists in providing feedback and evaluation to the Supervisor from employees and volunteers who work under their direction at events, programs, or facilities.
  9. Handles minor employee issues when the Supervisor is not on duty or at that specific site.
  10. Completes daily inspections and reports for facility operations.
  11. Performs money handling duties, including opening and closing cash tills and performing shift register counts.
  12. Opens or closes the facility as assigned.
  13. Fills in for other facility related job tasks if need (i.e. ticket collector, train operator, carousel operator)
  14. Works in a broad range of assignments with limited training including youth programs, adult programs and/or special events.
  15. Ensures security protocols for the train are followed during assigned shifts each day.
  16. Oversees operation of the P.A. system to make special and daily announcements.
  17. Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions
Conditions vary depending on the assignment. May work both indoor and outdoor during facility hours in varied temperatures and weather conditions. Requires the use of vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies and must be able to respond to these emergencies quickly and appropriately. Moderately heavy physical activity exerting up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently. Moderate exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.
Note:Must be available to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and other schedules to accommodate the seasonal operation schedule. This is a part-time position with variable hours averaging less than 28 hours per week over a period of twelve months.
Qualifications
Education:
None required. All applicants must be 17 years of age or older.
Preference given to those with education in recreation or a related field.
Experience:
Recreation and supervisory related experience preferred.
Experience working with money handling is preferred.
Customer service experience preferred
Licenses and/or Certifications:Must possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and be maintained throughout employment. CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications must be obtained within sixty (60) days of hire and be maintained throughout employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • General recreation and leisure activities and programming practices preferred
  • Computers and computer programs
  • Safety shut off procedures for water feature, volcano and restroom facilities

Skills:
  • Skills in working with people of all ages, including volunteers, on a continuing basis.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to:
  • Help recruit, train, and organize volunteers
  • Work in a broad range of assignments with limited to no training.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the activities and personnel involved in recreation programs, events, classes, or facilities.
  • Plan and exercise judgment in new or constantly changing problems and situations.
  • Show good judgment in preventing injuries and responding to recreation-related injuries based on an understanding of risk management.
  • Establish good community relations and interact with sponsors and community partners
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, city officials, civic organizations, and the public.
  • Operate the Thunder Junction train and the Carousel at Town Square.
  • Work independently

Free access to all 4 city golf courses (Dixie Red Hills, Southgate, St. George Golf Club, and Sunbrook), swimming pools (City Pool and Sand Hollow Aquatic Center) and recreation center is available to all part-time employees.
Note: Golf course privileges are based on availability. Employees can book a tee-time within 24 hours or the same day, but may be turned away if there are no available tee-times. If you happen to be golfing with at least 2 paying customers; tee times can be set with more advance notice, but are still based on availability. Red Hills Golf Course will not be available to schedule tee times in advance --- walk on play based on availability only.
