General Responsibilities
The primary goal of the Health Science course is to encourage a diverse pool of high school students with exemplary interpersonal skills to consider a career in Healthcare. The course will provide SW Washington high school students with the foundational skill and practical knowledge required to enter a Postsecondary Program in Allied Health. The Health Science Careers teacher will provide virtual and in-person instruction on the skills and competencies needed to succeed in a career in Healthcare. (Note: the course may be offered as Medical Terminology or Introduction to Health Science Careers).
Assignment/Location:
This position will be 3.45 hours per day, 185 days per year (.46 FTE) working at ESD 112 in Vancouver, WA and remote, with frequent travel throughout the ESD 112 region.
Salary Information:
The annual salary range for this position is $27,729.26 - $46,565.80. Salary placement is based on education and experience.
Essential Functions/Other Functions
Essential Functions:
  1. Effectively use culturally responsive and asset-based teaching methods in an effort to eliminate the opportunity gap in education and manage student behavior by establishing policy and procedures.
  2. Facilitate active learning instruction to students through planning and preparation to lecture, model, and use technology and other materials to engage learning and differentiate instruction in a blended/online learning environment.
  3. Prepare and communicate clearly course objectives, learning, activities and outline for course of study following frameworks and curriculum guidelines requirements of state, industry and schools.
  4. Collaborate with students, colleagues, and parents to communicate necessary information regularly regarding student progress and student needs utilizing district software and other tools for mandated record keeping and reporting.
  5. Support CTE Coordinator in maintaining course and program requirements, including participating in faculty and professional development, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain appropriate certifications.
  6. Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Other Functions:
  1. Willingness to accept extra-curricular assignments, including student leadership organizations such as FBLA. SkillsUSA, DECA, HOSA etc.
  2. Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with district schools and business partners to provide students with work-based learning opportunities.
  3. Collaborate with building leaders and other partners to leverage existing support.
  4. Other duties as assigned

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Valid Washington State CTE certification with an endorsement in Medical Assisting, Health Therapeutic Careers, Health Diagnostic Careers, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, Dental Assisting, Sports Medicine, or Nursing; or Eligibility to enroll in and complete an approved CTE Plan 2 Business & Industry Route teacher preparation program, plus 6,000 hours of verified occupational experience in healthcare, biomedical, clinical, or fitness-related fields, including qualifying experience in community, hospital, corporate, or recreational fitness programs involving instruction, supervision, management, or program administration; or Certified Athletic Trainer with qualifying occupational experience.
  2. Ability to design instruction around industry experience with real-life applications, such as Project-based learning.
  3. Experience using ZOOM, Canvas, Google Classroom and other learning management systems in a live, virtual classroom or other learning setting.

Preferred Qualiciations:
  1. Five years of experience as a Medical Assistant or other Healthcare occupation.
  2. Demonstrated experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching secondary level students.
  3. Teaching experience in a rural school; teaching experience with high school students.
