The referenced pay range represents the first and last step pay rates for this job, as set forth in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Individual pay will be set in accordance with terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities:

Provides clerical, receptionist and customer service on patient care units while maintaining confidentiality.SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:None. May orient new Patient Unit Secretaries.MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:Telephone, intercom, pneumatic tube system, copier, addrerssograph machine, computer terminal, shredder and fax machine.TYPICAL DUTIES:1.Transcription of patient care orders. Schedules tests and procedures with other departments. Completes and processes requisitions for tests, procedures and equipment.2.Obtains patient care equipment and/or supplies as requested by nurses and/or physicians. Notifies department of equipment that is in need of repair.3.Participates in patient admissions, discharges and transfers, according to unit requirements. Update patient care forms, e.g. patient census and diet order listing. 4.Greets and receives visitors and staff in a professional manner, giving appropriate directions and guidance. Provides courteous and accurate telephone coverage. Takes and delivers messages. Triages problems to appropriate person or department.5.Maintains record of patient location when off unit.6.Communicates and works effectively with other departments on patient, staff and unit related matters. Follows directions of nurses, physicians and other authorized personnel during emergencies.7.Orders supplies/forms, assures their arrival and restocks appropriately.8.Maintains clean and orderly work environment.9.Provides assistance on other units as necessary.10.Assists with patient transport as needed.QUALIFICATIONS:High school education and 1 year of clerical experience, with demonstrated legible writing and verbal communication skills; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills preferred.
