Job description

Provides high-profile, uniformed public safety and security services to supplement and assist full-time Public Safety Staff.

Essential Functions

  • Provide safety and security services at University Chapel by enforcing University Chapel rules and regulations. Provides basic greeter function for all Chapel visitors/guests.
  • Acts as a knowledgeable resource to students, staff, and visitors to campus. Provides general information such as directions and more up-to-date information about campus events and activities.
  • Additional hours available for events upon completion of CPR /AED and Basic First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Crowd Manager, ICS-100, Fire Extinguisher, and CSO training.
  • Provide safety and security services at large University events. Enforces University policies, rules, and regulations. Assists with traffic and parking operations as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Part-time Officers may be assigned to a specific location/detail, such as University Chapel security or event security during a given shift. The position requires availability on an as-needed/available basis, primarily during daylight hours, especially weekends, including holidays.

Minimum Pay: $19.00 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful candidates will possess a high degree of reliability, the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Successful candidates can also relate well to students, faculty, and a diverse community.
  • Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license and a good driving history.
  • Must be able to pass an extensive background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Pulling: Using the upper extremities to exert force to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.

TYPE OF WORK: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
