AVANCE is a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which began in San Antonio, Texas in 1973. AVANCE derives from the Spanish word meaning "to advance or "to progress." AVANCE is considered a pioneer in the field of parent education, helping support children and families achieve excellence through education and family-intervention programs which includes the renowned AVANCE Parent-Child Education Program. We provide community-based interventions, which are family-centered, preventive, comprehensive, and continuous through the integration and collaboration of educational services.

What began in a 500-unit public housing development in San Antonio, Texas, with an annual budget of $50,000 serving 35 families, AVANCE has grown to over 100 program sites across the U.S. serving thousands of parents and children annually

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for making home visits and observing the parent interaction with the child
using the toy made in the AVANCE toy making class, assisting the Parent Educator in addressing problems in the home and providing appropriate referrals for needed services.

Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to visually and audibly monitor children, bend, lift stoop, sit on the
floor and pull in variable directions when working with children and equipment.  Must be able to lift children from the floor up to 50 pounds, reach overhead and to the floor.

Job Description

This position is responsible for providing some clerical and program support to the AVANCE program staff, will transport children and parents to scheduled meetings and/or appointments.

  1. Participates in all recruiting activities as required/necessary.

  2. Contacts parents by phone or in person to schedule pick-up and route and transport them to and from their homes to AVANCE activities.

  3. Ensures that a car seat and safety seat belts are available for all children and parents.

  4. Provides maintenance of AVANCE bus (i.e. inspection sticker, license plate renewal, security and safety equipment inspections, etc.) and informs supervisor of required maintenance.

  5. Maintains day-to-day operation of AVANCE bus (i.e. gas tank filled up, oil changes, correct oil, coolant, brake and transmission fluid levels and correct air pressure in tires, etc.) to ensure client safety while in transit,

  6. Informs participants of safety procedures when riding in the bus and performs a Pre-trip and Post-trip safety inspection of bus.

  7. Informs supervisor of any problems regarding participants and their children noted while being transported.

  8. Maintains mileage and client transportation records and prepares monthly reports,

  9. Must provide bus evacuation training to participants within the first 30 days of each program year or as needed to new clients enrolling after the beginning of the program year as well as responds with appropriate emergency procedures as needed.

  10. Attends staff meetings and training sessions as required, and assist in recruitment and enrollment of families as instructed.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

  • Required: Valid CDL license, good driving record and must be insurable by AVANCE

  • Preferred: Experience working with infant and toddler

  • Post Offer Drug Screen

  • Moving Violation Report

  • Criminal Background Check
