Job description

Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox day school in Westchester, NY is seeking a part-time Hebrew Learning Specialist for the 2026 - 2027 school year. The individual who takes this position would teach small groups of students who need further support in Hebrew, including students that have a language based learning disability.

This is a part time role, schedule to be determined. 

About the School 

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor. 

Candidates should be experienced individuals who are well-versed in current teaching pedagogy and demonstrate a passion for elementary school education. Candidates should be responsible, professional, and energetic; and work well with children and adults. WDS educators create a nurturing and collaborative environment that cultivates a love of learning and provides space for each individual to grow.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support learners academically, socially, and emotionally

  • Work closely with other members of the Hebrew language team

  • Plan and implement lessons and activities that are developmentally and grade appropriate  

  • Use a wide variety of teaching strategies to differentiate instruction to support a range of learners

  • Create a positive and supportive classroom community

  • Communicate effectively and positively with parents and members of the school 

  • Work as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators to carry out the mission of Westchester Day School

  • Adhere to administration policies and rules

  • Remain open to learning and growing personally and professionally

Requirements

Bachelor’s  or Master’s degree in Education or Jewish Education 

  • Fluent in Hebrew

  • Minimum of three years middle school teaching experience

  • Candidates for all positions should demonstrate a positive and professional demeanor, exhibit organizational skills to maintain daily responsibilities, communicate effectively with others, and be open to feedback from supervisors.  

  • ESL experience a plus

Salary range for this role is $35,000-  $45,000, depending upon education and experience.
