Job description

SUMMARY
The Technical Director will advise, plan, manage and evaluate all lighting, video, audio and stage production needs required for use of theater events. Knowledge of production technical equipment, planning and design methods, set-up techniques including change outs, electrical hookups, rigging, staff placement, sound and lighting applications. Equipment inventory, maintenance and planning for additional equipment shall also be the responsibility of this position. Continuous hours of work may be in excess of 40 hours per week and include evenings, weekends and holidays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Responsible for oversight of all technical areas of facility
2. Coordinate client needs, review event riders
3. Budget for maintenance, CIP needs
4. Employ, train schedule and oversee the performance of technical crews, part-time staff.
5. Manage / assist with the operation of technical equipment for events.
6. Maintain inventory control, upkeep, storage areas
7. Maintain regular office hours
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES8. Maintain or schedule maintenance for all technical equipment needing such care.
9. Compile and maintain records for payroll, personnel scheduling, and event scheduling.
10. Anticipate equipment and other needs for individual events.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise all technical services personnel and stagehands, and any facility workers assigned for work in this area. Employee will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 1. Must be able to work abbreviated normal office hours plus nights and weekend hours as required for event preparation, presentation and move-out.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Degree in technical theatre or related field is preferred.
3. Knowledge of procedures and requirements of the entertainment business to insure good relationships with promoters and performers.
4. A basic knowledge of business management practices and procedures.
5. Experience working in a computer network environment utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
6. Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS
1. Must possess a current valid driver's license.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
1. Ability to communicate effectively orally and electronically.
2. Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
3. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
4. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
