What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Switchgear Engineer, and why are they important?

A Part Time Switchgear Engineer requires a solid background in electrical engineering, knowledge of switchgear design and maintenance, and typically a relevant engineering degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with CAD software, electrical testing equipment, and industry standards such as IEC or ANSI is often necessary. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help engineers address technical challenges and collaborate with teams. These competencies are vital to ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of electrical power systems in various industrial and commercial settings.

Job description

Summer Intern- Training Department (Full or Part-Time)

Take your next career step at Royal Switchgear Manufacturing Company with a US based team that is developing responsive solutions for an evolving grid.

RSMC is a leader in the engineering, design, and manufacturing of critical componentry for electrical substations and the broader grid. Our pride lies in our long-standing partnership with utilities companies, the reliability of our products, and the technical and hands-on capabilities of our team.

The company is at an exciting inflection as we continue to expand our existing brand portfolio and deepen relationships with new and existing customers.

Work Instruction & Video Lesson Development Project

The Training Department is seeking a Summer Intern to support a focused project converting written work instruction scripts into structured video-based training lessons. This role will help build and organize a standardized Work Instruction system that supports consistent, task-based training for manufacturing employees.

The intern will assist with reviewing training scripts, organizing content into clear lesson segments, preparing video lesson outlines, coordinating visuals or demonstrations, and helping ensure each lesson follows the approved training format. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, comfortable working with written instructions, and interested in training, manufacturing, video development, instructional design, or process improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review Work Instruction scripts for clarity, sequence, and training readiness.
  • Break scripts into video lesson sections, scenes, or teachable segments.
  • Help prepare outlines, checklists, captions, or narration notes for training videos.
  • Organize files, scripts, visuals, and lesson materials within the WI system.
  • Support consistency in formatting, terminology, and instructional flow.
  • Assist with basic video preparation, review, or editing coordination as needed.
  • Work with Training team members and subject matter experts to clarify process steps.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Clear written communication.
  • Ability to follow formatting standards and project instructions.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar tools.
  • Interest in training, education, manufacturing, video production, or process documentation.
  • Ability to organize information clearly and ask good clarifying questions.

Project Goal:
By the end of the summer, the intern will help move the Training Department closer to a repeatable system for turning approved Work Instruction scripts into clear, consistent video lessons for employee training.
