A Part Time Surgical Tech assists surgeons and medical teams during surgeries, handling instruments, preparing operating rooms, and ensuring a sterile environment. They work fewer hours than full-time techs, often on flexible or scheduled shifts based on hospital or clinic needs. Responsibilities may include passing instruments, maintaining equipment, and helping with patient preparation. To thrive as a Part Time Surgical Tech, you need a solid understanding of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and anatomy, typically supported by completion of an accredited surgical technology program and certification (such as CST). Familiarity with surgical instruments, operating room protocols, and tools like autoclaves and electronic health record (EHR) systems is essential. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm under pressure are valuable soft skills for this role. These skills ensure surgeries run smoothly, patient safety is maintained, and effective support is provided to surgeons and nursing staff.

You may work alongside registered nurses, anesthesiologists, and surgeons, often rotating between different surgical specialties as needed. Part time shifts can vary but frequently involve early mornings or late afternoons to accommodate surgical schedules, and flexibility is highly valued. Because the work is fast-paced and team-oriented, strong communication and adaptability are crucial. This role is ideal for those seeking hands-on experience in a dynamic medical environment while balancing other commitments.
