Job description

Title: Operations Engineer Co-op (Central Service Area) Fall 2026 
Company: Tampa Electric Company 
State and City: Florida - Tampa
Shift: Mon – Fri, 20-40 hours, varies on location and/or role

Position Summary/Details:

The Student will work with Operation Engineer on distribution system protection, protection coordination, power quality, and reliability. They will investigate reliability referrals, develop action plans to remedy issues, create work requests to implement proposed solutions, and respond to customers once issues have been resolved.

Accountabilities:

  • Create and/or process work requests in work management software
  • Estimate electrical loads for customers and determine actual or proposed field measurements.
  • Model proposed designs in the appropriate software to meet customer needs and ensure all results follow respective regulatory requirements
  • Produce construction prints for field construction of proposed designs Attend weekly work scheduling meetings
  • Assist TEC Distribution Design staff as needed

Physical Location of Co-op: Central Service Area (CSA) 2200 E. Sligh Ave Tampa, FL. 33610

Working Conditions Mostly in a normal office environment, a successful candidate will visit the field approximately weekly. This will include riding in a company vehicle on-road and off-road, walking on uneven surfaces, and entering substations.

Preferred Availability: Part – Time (30 – 40 hours)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  

The successful applicant should be enrolled in an ABET accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.

Co-Op Requirements:

  • To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.

Required Degree: Engineering

Preferred/Related Discipline: Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical,

Year in School: Junior or Senior

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Microsoft Office and Basic Understanding of Power Systems
