Job description

Title: Street Sweeper Part Time

Department: Public Works Division: Streets

Hourly Wage Range: $20.76 - $25.95 DOE


General Purpose

Performs a variety of working-level skilled duties in the operation of a street sweeper as needed to clear and maintain clean city roadways.


Supervision Received

Works under the general supervisor of the Street Maintenance Supervisor.


Supervision Exercised

None.


Essential Functions

Operates street sweepers in an assigned area.

Cleans, services and makes minor adjustments according to the manufacturer's specifications.

Maintains records of maintenance and street sweeping operations.

Makes minor repairs to equipment, such as replacing gutter brooms, curtains on pick-up head, belt adjustments on blower fan, gutter broom height, and angle for sweeping, and using check list in the operator's manual.

Assist Street Division personnel in other areas of responsibilities, such as pavements and alley repairs, chip sealing program by operating dump trucks, rollers, or traffic control.

Assist with the cleanup of areas of responsibility in the City Shop.

May assist with various seasonal projects as assigned.

Performs other duties as required.


Minimum Qualifications

1. Education and Experience.

A. Graduation from high school;

AND

B. Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a field directly related to the above duties;

OR

C. An equivalent combination of education and experience

2. Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Working knowledge of hazards and precautions associated with operating equipment in the public right-of-way; basic equipment and repair.

Skill in the operation of light mechanized equipment as required by the position.

3. Special Qualifications:

Must possess a Driver's License. May be required to obtain Flagman Traffic Control Certification.

4. Work Environment:

Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Talking, hearing and seeing are essential to performing the required job functions. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity are required. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, and discriminating thinking. Daily local travel is required in the normal course of job performance.
