Sports Specialist Part-Time – Beverly YMCA

Do you love basketball and enjoy coaching or mentoring young athletes? Are you passionate about helping children build confidence, develop new skills, and have fun? The Beverly YMCA is looking for an energetic, enthusiastic Sports Specialist to join our team!

As a Sports Specialist, you'll play an important role in creating a positive and engaging environment where children learn the fundamentals of sports, teamwork, and sportsmanship. While you'll support a variety of youth sports throughout the year, basketball is a primary focus of this role. We're looking for someone with strong basketball knowledge who is excited to coach, teach skills and drills, and inspire young athletes both on and off the court.

What You'll Do
  • Coach youth basketball practices, skills clinics, and seasonal leagues.
  • Teach basketball fundamentals while promoting teamwork, confidence, and good sportsmanship.
  • Referee games, keep score, and ensure a safe, positive experience for all participants.
  • Lead engaging activities in a variety of seasonal sports, including basketball, soccer, flag football, volleyball, t-ball, and pickleball.
  • Build meaningful relationships with participants and families through positive communication and encouragement.
  • Assist with program setup, equipment management, private rentals, birthday parties, and special events.
  • Support summer camps and seasonal sports programming throughout the year.
  • Help create a welcoming environment where every child feels included, challenged, and successful.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Availability to work a flexible Tuesday–Saturday schedule.
  • Experience coaching, officiating, or participating in organized sports, with basketball experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with youth and creating a positive, engaging environment.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to lead sports leagues, practices, clinics, and recreational programs while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development.
