WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Child Welfare Services (CWS) provides a variety of supportive services to children and families to reduce the risk of child maltreatment and ensure safety for children. When it is not possible for children to remain in their own homes, temporary placement in foster care, with relatives, or with an adoptive family may be arranged.

What You'll Be Doing
The primary purpose of this position is to perform professional social work in case management and counseling services to children and families affected by abuse and neglect, in support of permanency planning efforts across all out-of-home service delivery units in Child Welfare Services. This position may also provide oversight of Voluntary Placement Agreement (VPA) cases. The VPA Case Manager is responsible for overseeing cases that allow the parents to obtain out-of-home treatment while still retaining custody of the child. The role involves assessing family needs, coordinating placement services, developing and monitoring service plans, and ensuring compliance with state regulations. The Case Manager works closely with families, foster care providers, legal representatives, and multidisciplinary teams to support reunification or alternative permanency outcomes.
As a Child Welfare Social Worker, you will be required to:
- Attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office
- Operate a motor vehicle to transport children, supplies, and equipmentto other locations
- Lift, carry, and manage stairs with children, equipment, and supplies
- Have some flexibility in rotating schedules, based on casework and operational needs
There are two part-time Social Worker I/II positions available. One position will be assigned to our Screening Unit, and the other position will be assigned to an Out-of-Home unit and will be responsible for an out-of-home/VPA caseload.
This position REQUIRES a valid driver's license and the ability to drive a County vehicle to conduct home, school, and community visits. The role also requires the ability to lift and carry children, equipment, and supplies and to safely navigate stairs and various home environments during fieldwork.
Selected candidates for this position will be subject to a pre-employment medical exam/drug screening and criminal history records check through the Maryland State Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Candidates will also be checked through the Maryland Registry for Child Abuse and Neglect and federal and state sex offender registries. Any applicant who fails the medical exam, background check or whose name appears on either of the registries may be disqualified from employment for this position.
Minimum Qualifications
Social Worker I
Education: Possession of a master's degree in social work (MSW) from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of a graduate social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Experience: None
License: Must be licensed as a Licensed Master Social Worker- LMSW,or higher, by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners.? Note: There will be no substitutions for this requirement.
Driver's License Required:Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid driver's license from the applicant's state of residence.
Social Worker II
Education: Possession of a master's degree in social work(MSW) from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of a graduate social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Experience:At least one yearofsocial work experience under the supervision of an LCSW or LCSW-Cin accordance withMaryland Board requirements.
License: Must be licensed as a Licensed Master Social Worker- LMSW, or higher, by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment. Note: There will be no substitutions for this requirement.
