Part Time Senior Accountant Job Description

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Department: Finance/Accounting
Location: Sarkes Tarzian, Inc. | Bloomington, IN

Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and compliant financial records across the company, in accordance with GAAP and internal policies. This role supports divisional controllers and must meet mandatory monthly, quarterly, and annual deadlines, payroll, tax reporting, and consolidated financial statement preparation. The Controller plays a key role in supporting the CFO and company leadership through detailed reporting, audits, and financial planning.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations:

  • Maintain the general ledger and income statements
  • Handle month-end, quarter-end, and fiscal year-end closing processes
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly combined financial statements
  • Maintain fixed asset records and property tax reports for all divisions

Budgeting & Forecasting:

  • Develop and maintain the corporate operational budget
  • Assist divisional controllers with budget preparation
  • Consolidate divisional budgets into corporate projections
  • Provide analysis and reporting for financial planning efforts

Payroll & Benefits:

  • Back up payroll processing, payroll taxes, and 401(k) withholding

Compliance & Reporting:

  • Complete workers’ compensation reporting annually
  • Prepare reports and documentation for year-end financial reviews and audits
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies

Qualifications:

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting
  • Experience with financial statement preparation, payroll processing, journal entries, property tax reporting, and fixed asset management
  • Background in television, radio, and digital advertising accounting preferred

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required
  • Strong analytical, planning, and critical thinking skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize duties and work collaboratively with Divisions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial accounting software
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Oversight experience and team leadership abilities
  • Willingness and ability to travel for audits and professional development
  • Valid driver's license and insurability (required)
  • Experience with Net Suite Software preferred
  • Must be able to be bonded

Decision-Making Authority:

  • Prioritize daily and long-term accounting duties
  • Post entries to the general ledger

Work Environment & Requirements:

  • Flexibility in schedule; must be available to meet deadlines and cover CFO responsibilities (as needed)
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and manage multiple responsibilities
