Job description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Receives demographic and clinical information regarding patient and initiates cardiac monitoring for patients being monitored remotely (telemetry). Observes cardiac monitors of the patients in the CCU and those in other areas of the hospital being monitored by remote cardiac telemetry. (Ongoing primary responsibility.)

Responsible for interpretation/recognition of basic cardiac rhythms, with nurse supervision. 

Notifies the nurse of alarms generated at the central station.

Answers incoming telephone calls. Takes messages, obtains information, provides information as appropriate regarding patient status/condition, and routes calls or messages to appropriate person or department.

Maintains CCU log of admissions, dismissals, and transfers.

Maintains contact with ancillary departments to request services, obtains test results if needed, and notifies appropriate staff of results. Schedules patients for services as requested by provider or nurse.

Greets patient families/visitors. Provides an atmosphere reflecting courtesy and concern for patient and family well-being. Provides directions and information to patients, families, and visitors.

Maintains work environment in an orderly fashion.

Monitors information systems printer routinely throughout shift to ensure timely receipt and/or delivery of information. Check nurse’s station workstation for “terminal mail” and responds appropriately.

Participates in unit staff meetings.

Performs other duties as required.

Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: 

High school diploma or equivalent required. Medical terminology course or previous secretarial experience in a health-related field a plus. Basic dysrhythmia recognition course and/or previous experience preferred.
