Job description

Position: Sales Tax Administrator

Department: Finance

Reports to: Finance Director

Salary: Temporary Part- Time $26 – $28 hourly DOE

Closing Date: 08/15/2026 or until filled

Position Overview:

The Town of Gypsum is seeking a temporary, part-time Sales Tax Administrator to receive and process monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax returns and payments. This position is available immediately and will continue through the end of January 2027, at which time the Town will transition to state-collected sales tax.

Schedule:

Approximately 20 hours per week. Workload is cyclical: lighter during the first two weeks of each month and heavier during the second two weeks, as sales tax returns are due on the 20th of each month.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive, review, and process monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax returns and associated payments.
  • Ensure accurate recording and reconciliation of sales tax receipts.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation related to sales tax filings and payments.
  • Respond to basic inquiries regarding sales tax submissions as needed.
  • Perform related administrative and clerical duties to support the sales tax process through the transition period.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of sales tax principles and processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage fluctuating workload.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and ability to learn municipal financial systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience processing sales tax returns or working in a municipal finance or tax administration role.
  • Experience with Tyler Technologies ERP Pro 10 system.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Residency Requirement: Applicants must be residents of the State of Colorado.
