Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), this position provides care for women and newborns. The Labor/Delivery Scrub Tech utilizes sterile techniques to prepare surgical suites for C-Section and tubal ligation cases, prepares delivery tables for vaginal births, and functions as an operating room technician, assisting physicians with surgical procedures.๐Ÿ“ Location: Utah Valley Hospital - Provo, Utah๐Ÿข Department/Unit:Labor and Delivery๐Ÿ“… Shifts:Part-time | 24 hours/week | Two 12-hour shifts๐Ÿ•’ Schedule:Variable; includes days, evenings, swings, nights, weekends, and holidays๐Ÿ’ต Pay:Starting at $18.94+ (based on patient care experience)๐ŸŽ Benefits:Health, Vision, Dental, 401(k), Education Assistance, and more
  • This is a Certified Nursing Assistant/Health Unit Coordinator position that will learn to scrub within 90 days of hire. For unit and personal growth, candidates willing to make a one-year commitment after successfully completing training are preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures that the patient room is ready to receive the patient with equipment and supplies necessary during the labor and delivery process. May be responsible for maintaining and stocking birthing rooms appropriately.
  • Assists patients with bed baths, showering, use of bed pans and restrooms, foley catheter care, and ambulation.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs of patients and newborns before, during, and after delivery.
  • Prepares the room for vaginal delivery by draping the patient and preparing appropriate equipment, including the delivery table, and assists the RN.
  • Prepares the room for C-Section by preparing the patient, scrubbing for procedures, setting up and passing instruments, and completing all instrument, sponge, and sharp counts with the RN. Ensures sterility is maintained throughout the operative procedure.
  • Understands the plan of care and delivers basic patient care by collecting and documenting patient data and reporting patient changes to the RN.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA) in the state of practice.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
