Job Description:

The In-Patient Medicine Program at THP consists of a total of more than 350 beds across the CVH & MH and is staffed by large interprofessional teams who support the care of complex medicine patients within the Mississauga-Halton LHIN. Our in-patient units offer first-rate care in an innovative environment supporting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of our patients. We are dedicated to building a diverse workforce that reflects the community in which we live and serve. 

Reporting to a Clinical Manager, the ideal candidate will be focused on providing excellent patient centered care in a dynamic environment where he/she will be given the opportunity to deliver care with compassion, excellence and courage. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Graduate of a recognized college or school of nursing
  • Registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or currently meet the eligibility criteria to register in good standing in the Temporary Class or General Class with the CNO 
  • Able to function to the full scope of practice as per CNO
  • Basic Life Support certification
  • If working in an area with telemetry, successful candidates responsible for obtaining formal certification within six months of hire
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and the ability to care for patients with the following care needs: initiation and maintenance of IV therapy, administration of medication above and below the drip chamber, blood and blood product administration, patient controlled analgesia, Enteral feeds, TPN, transfusion of blood products, central venous access devices CVADS (PICCs), blood glucose monitoring, naso-gastric tubes, wound management skills, routine infection control practices, normal and abnormal blood values, oxygen therapy, tracheostomies, and chest tubes.
  • Computer skills including typing, sending and receiving email and working with Microsoft applications such as Word
  • Satisfactory attendance and performance record required 
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred
  • Minimum of two years acute care medical/surgical experience
  • Completion of a physical assessment course
  • Experience working with acute care medicine patient populations, including respirology, nephrology, cardiology patients requiring telemetry monitoring and geriatric patients
  • Experience in providing and delivering patients and families with educational teaching
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrates patient and family-centred care values
  • Evidence of on-going professional development
  • Experience and knowledge with Meditech and/or Sunrise Clinical Manager clinical application systems
