CRNAs are professional Registered Nurses duly licensed and certified to practice as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, registered with the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA), and have completed a graduate curriculum focusing on clinical judgment and critical thinking in all aspects of anesthesia care. CRNAs will be medically supervised by AHMC's Anesthesia Department anesthesiologists. The CRNA must have specific qualifications and be willing to work within the boundaries of the stated scope of practice and may be assigned to any AnMed facility.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The CRNA is responsible to the Operating Physician, the supervising anesthesiologist, the chief nurse anesthetist and AnMed as employer.
  • Administers such drugs as may be necessary for patients having regional anesthesia techniques, after the regional techniques have been established by the anesthesiologist.
  • Assists in proper positioning of the patient before procedure to assure protection from injury.
  • Administers general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care anesthetics.
  • Continuously monitor patient’s vital signs including but not limited to, blood pressure, pulse, respirations and cardiac rhythms.
  • Administers anesthesia as is determined by the anesthesiologist.

Qualifications

  • South Carolina Advanced Practice Nurse licensure.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nurse anesthetists.
  • Certification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
