Job description

Job Title: Teacher's Aide / Paraprofessional I

Location: CP Rochester's Winton Road Facility

Salary commensurate with experience:

  • FT & PT $16.75 - $18.75
  • Subs $16.50 - $18.00

Employment: This is a full-time 30 hours per week OR a part-time 20-29 hours per week position OR per diem substitute. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during business hours (8:45am - 3:15pm). The school schedule is to be followed and vacations are taken with school breaks. Evening work may be required as job duties demand. This position follows a 12-month school year schedule which includes a 6-week Summer session.

Summary/Objective: Act as an active team member in providing for the well-being, education and supervision of children in the classroom.

Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent OR 1 year of experience working with children.
  2. Experience with young children preferred.
  3. Must be at least 18 years of age

Essential Funtions:

  1. Imparts agency philosophy of “Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential” to children, families, program staff and community resources.
  2. Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.
  3. Performs both instructional and non-instructional duties under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
  4. Assists the classroom teacher in all children’s activities throughout the day.
  5. Supervises children at all times, including during busing and transitional activities.
  6. Assists in physical care tasks and health related activities as appropriate.
  7. Assists children with behavioral/management needs.
  8. Functions as a positive, contributing member of the classroom team.
  9. Attends appropriate meetings as determined by the classroom teacher and Program Director.
  10. Demonstrates consistent, nurturing manner toward all children.
  11. Maintains classroom cleanliness and the orderly appearance of classroom equipment, supplies and displays of children’s work.
  12. Assists in the preparation of children’s snacks.
  13. Shares all relevant information related to classroom children obtained from various sources with the classroom teacher.
  14. Performs classroom duties as assigned by the classroom teacher.
  15. Actively participates in bus arrival and dismissal.
  16. Adheres to Agency’s policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.
  17. Participates in conferences, workshops, and in-service training to enhance job skills and personal growth and development.
  18. Performs other duties at the discretion of the Program Director or his/her designee
  19. Directly responsible to the assigned Classroom Teacher.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds. The employee must frequently push/pull objects up to 100 pounds. Ability to navigate all areas of the preschool quickly including indoor and outdoor areas.
