Job description

Position: Intern for Competitive Sports
Department: Campus Recreation
Status: Part Time (Less than 25 hours/week)
Position Summary:
The Intern is responsible for assisting with management of all aspects of Intramural and Club Sports within the Department of Campus Recreation. The Intern gives input to all decisions concerning Intramural and Club Sport issues. This position will work collaboratively with the other Intern for Competitive Sports and will report directly to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation for Competitive Sports. This position works no more than 25 hours per week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with Administration of Intramural and Club Sport programs.
  • Assist with the supervision, hiring, training, and evaluating of Intramural Supervisors and Officials.
  • Assist with the advising of Club Sports, Club Sport Council, and Club Sport Council Committees and Executive Boards.
  • Assist with the supervision and administration of Club Sport and Intramural budgets
  • Program multiple intramural sports with differing levels of competition and student participation.
  • Plan, organize, supervise, schedule, lead, and evaluate Intramural, Club Sport, and departmental special events.
  • Assist with recordkeeping, and help manage documentation relating to Club and Intramural sports (club budgets, forfeit deposits, waivers, rosters, etc...).
  • Help develop and administer training for Club Sport members, officers, coaches, and advisors.
  • Manage facility reservation requests for Intramurals and Club Sport programs.
  • Provide assistance and guidance in the development of special events, contests, fundraisers, and other activities for Club sports.
  • Present information about Intramurals and Club Sports during campus wide events, New Student Orientation, Admissions Visitation Days and at other promotional opportunities.
  • First aid and CPR certifications are required within 90 days of start date.
  • Help facilitate and assist with regular student staff meetings.
  • Inform and enforce Intramural and Club Sport Handbook policies and procedures to students.
  • Participate in employee and participant disciplinary conferences.
  • Conduct research and share information and ideas for potential future events, programs, or projects.
  • Responsibilities within the university's summer camp program may be required (additional compensation aside from the monthly stipend will be provided).
  • Must maintain regular office hours and be available during those times, unless needed at events.
  • Maintain a neat, professional appearance (casual business/athletic) and demeanor at all times.
  • Other job-related duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned by the Assistant Director and Director of Campus Recreation, at any time, with or without notice.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to: Title IX and FERPA guidelines.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or in year five of a 4+1 program required
  • Prior experience within Campus Recreation required
  • Experience training and evaluating student officials in multiple sports including flag football, basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, etc.
  • Familiarity with Intramural and Sport Club administrative duties desired
  • Strong officiating background in flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer and/or softball desired
  • Experience in event planning and administration including extramural activities desired
  • Experience marketing campus recreation events desired

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Stronger interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels
  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Google docs
  • Proficiency utilizing social media and other standard platforms of digital communication
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people
  • Exercise good judgment in complex, new and/or stressful situations
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines
  • Adaptability, flexibility and willingness to work in a changing environment
  • This position requires integrity, honesty, accuracy and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University.
