Job description

QUALIFICATIONS:


High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent (preferred). Strong, detail-oriented team leader with excellent organizational and recordkeeping skills. Possess a valid driver’s license. Must meet Park Board employment and physical standards, which includes a background check as well as drug and alcohol screening. Experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and aptitude to perform the defined duties.

MISSION STATEMENT:


Cullman Parks, Recreation, & Sports Tourism is dedicated to improving quality of life through exceptional parks, facilities, events, and recreational opportunities for all.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assists higher level of workers in various maintenance, repair, and construction work. 
  • Maintains mowing of grass on right of ways, playgrounds, sports playing fields, and park areas, including edging of grass along sidewalks, curbs, and streets.
  • Uses chemicals in the control of grass and weeds.
  • Moves bleachers city-wide for various events.
  • Plants and maintains sod, shrubbery, plants, and all other beautification at various recreational facilities, removes and trims trees.
  • Cleans and refinishes gym floor at recreation center and Civic Center.
  • Lines and cleans all baseball and softball fields.
  • Takes the necessary precautions and safeguards for preventing injury to employees, the public, and damage to private and city property.
  • Works tournaments and leagues maintaining facilities at all times.
  • Acts as a team member with other Parks and Recreation staff, embracing and supporting the vision and mission of the CPRST Board of Directors and the City of Cullman.
  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism and ethics working amicably with the Park Board, the Executive Director, Administrators, Personnel, and Community.
  • Exhibits proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Work hours vary, which will likely include nights and weekends, with hours varying based on time of year, events, and projects.
  • Attends all meetings as requested by supervisors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:


Work exposes the employee to adverse weather conditions and hazards associated with mowing equipment, chemicals, and general maintenance duties.  Protective equipment is required such as gloves, safety glasses, clothing, and boots. 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


Work is performed both inside and outside and requires the physical and mental ability to operate a motor vehicle, grounds maintenance equipment, and computer. Work also requires working around heights, heavy lifting, and the ability to climb, stand, bend, and sit while performing various job duties.  Must be able to routinely lift fifty pounds of weight without assistance.
