Job description

Status: Seasonal (Full-Time and Part-Time positions available)

The Best Job on the Mountain - if you'd rather spend your winter skiing than standing behind a counter, this is your opportunity. Sugar Bowl Resort is seeking motivated, hardworking, and high-energy Full-Time and Part-Time Race & Events Crew Team Members to join our Race & Events Department for the winter season. Our team is responsible for producing world-class ski races, Freeride and Park competitions, music venues, and signature Sugar Bowl events such as the Silver Belt - at one of California's most historic ski resorts. Race & Events Crew isn't just another mountain job: we spend approximately 90% of our workday on skis, setting up race venues, preparing courses, and supporting some of the highest-level events in the region. Every day is different, and most every day is on snow. You'll work alongside an experienced, passionate team that takes pride in doing things the right way while having an incredible time doing it.

Why Sugar Bowl?

Sugar Bowl Resort has been proudly independent for over 80 years and is one of the oldest ski resorts in California. Situated atop beautiful Donner Summit, Sugar Bowl has a storied past with ties to Austrian ski culture, Hollywood and Walt Disney. This special community helped bring skiing to "sunny California" since December 1939. Since then, it continues to attract adventurous winter sports enthusiasts alike.

Our Race & Events Department works alongside nearly every department across the resort, making Race & Events Crew one of the most respected and connected teams on the mountain - part of a culture built around teamwork, professionalism, adventure, and a genuine love for skiing.

Who You Are:

Passionate about skiing and excited to spend your winter on snow

A team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic

Dependable, responsible, and willing to do whatever it takes to support the team

Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where every day presents new challenges

Able to maintain a high standard of professionalism while having fun at work

Committed to delivering exceptional guest and athlete experiences

Flexible to work weekends, holidays, early mornings, and variable schedules throughout the season

An advanced skier, capable of confidently skiing most terrain at Sugar Bowl

Comfortable skiing in all weather and snow conditions

Able to ski while carrying equipment such as fencing, bamboo, gates, shovels, drills, timing equipment, and tools

Physically capable of working outdoors in a demanding mountain environment

A ski racing background is a plus, but not required - we can teach the technical skills; we can't teach passion, attitude, and work ethic

What You'll do:

Set up and break down race courses and competition venues

Install and remove fencing, closures, banners, and safety systems

Set up and operate race equipment and systems

Prepare start and finish areas

Maintain race surfaces through slipping, raking, shoveling, and course maintenance

Assist with snow surface preparation, including water injection and course hardening techniques

Maintain, organize, repair, and store race equipment

Support races, training, festivals, and special events throughout the resort

Assist the Sugar Bowl Academy during training and competitions

Work alongside Lift Operations, Patrol, Grooming, Mountain Operations, and other resort departments

Perform additional duties that help create safe, successful events and exceptional guest experiences

Physical Requirements:

Able to ski confidently on most terrain at Sugar Bowl, in all weather and snow conditions, for the majority of an 8-hour shift

Able to ski while carrying equipment such as fencing, bamboo, gates, shovels, drills, timing equipment, and tools

Capable of repetitive bending, lifting, and carrying course equipment and materials

Comfortable working outdoors in cold, winter weather conditions for extended periods

Able to stand, walk, and move across varied and often ungroomed mountain terrain throughout a shift

Manual dexterity for setting up, operating, and repairing race and event equipment

Sufficient visual and auditory acuity to work safely around race courses, crowds, and mountain operations

Winter Benefits:

Employer sponsored 401k plan after 1,000 worked hours and one (1) year of service

Paid sick time

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Professional development opportunities

Free ski and tubing passes for employees

Free ski passes for dependents

50% off food at our restaurants

Free group ski and snowboard lessons for employees

Employee discounted lift tickets for family and friends

Lift ticket discounts at multiple resorts including 24 Mountain Collective destinations

Hotel discounts

Employee ski reciprocal programs
