Nurse Extern II: Specialty Exploration Program: St. Luke's Medical Center
Milwaukee, WI, United States
Where you will work:
This innovative program provides exceptional support of nursing students in a Nurse Extern II role; assisting develop skills and knowledge prior to graduation. Through in-depth precepted experiences on three different specialty units at St. Luke's Medical Center; the program provides in depth experience and information to assist you in determining the "Best Fit" to start your career.
What You'll do:
  • Applicants will work in a cohort with support and collaboration from RN Preceptors and educators throughout the program.
  • In collaboration with the Best Fit Program Manager, three specialty units at St. Luke's Medical Center will be selected for the unit rotations.
  • Participants will work providing patient care with a RN preceptor on 3 Specialty units, for 5 weeks (one 8-hour shift per week on days). The program progression is for a total of 16 weeks.
  • Through a Realistic Job Preview of each unit's nursing workflow, you will determine which unit offer best fits your career goals for longevity in that specialty unit. Transition seamlessly from a Nurse Extern II into a RN role.

What we are looking for:
  • Current enrollment with Dec. 2026 anticipated graduation of an accredited nursing program.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Surgical Course that includes pharmacological concepts.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities/workload necessary.
  • BLS certification.
