Job description

Position Title: Extended Day Program (EDP) Assistant
Reports to: Extended Day Program Director
Employment Status: Part-Time
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Lower School Extended Day Program (EDP) Assistant is one who loves children and provides a safe, nurturing, warm, fun-filled after-school environment for the participants. The candidate will lead age-appropriate activities ranging from homework assistance, arts and crafts, playground/sports, games, computers, and more. The EDP Assistant will work collaboratively with the EDP Director and School Administration to promote the mission of The Walker School. The EDP Assistant should model ethical and professional behavior, have a positive attitude, accept personal responsibility for their actions, and demonstrate a commitment to the school, its mission, and its policies. This position has variable hours between 2 pm and 6 pm daily. EDP "camp" days may begin earlier (planning days, professional days, parent conferences, etc.)
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
The ideal candidate will have experience working with young children and proven success as a childcare provider. The candidate will exhibit strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution qualities.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Key responsibilities include:
  • Provide quality supervision for children ranging from 3 years old to 5th grade
  • Positively manage groups of children (various ages)
  • Facilitate engaging in after-school activities
  • Promote an orderly, controlled environment in which learning and fun can take place
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Contribute to weekly staff meetings, sharing ideas and feedback
  • Maintain daily parent sign-in and sign-out sheets for students
  • Be professional in dress and behavior; be punctual
  • Follow Georgia State Bright from the Start regulations to ensure a safe environment for the children.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must be 18 years of age or older, eligible to work in the US, and hold a work permit, if applicable. All candidates will be required to pass a background screening.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods; occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. Ability to bend and stoop to interact with children at their eye level.
