Job description

Organization: KeyPoint Alliance (KPA), Inc. (www.1kpa.org)
Title of Position: Part-Time Summer Program Assistant
Department: TRIO Upward Bound Programs
Reports To: Program Director
Working Conditions: Metropolitan Atlanta area; professional work environment; work requires occasional evenings, weekends and overnight stays.
Pay Range: $13.00 - $18.00 (pay will be commensurate with experience and education)
Number of Positions: Approx. 2-3
Work Hours/Days: Program runs Mon - Fri, fromapproximately8:00am - 4:00pm (however, hours may vary depending on summer program activities); Program Dates: June 8th - July 17th, Please Note: there is a several dayovernight stay in college dorms during this time frame that will be required
General Function (Description): This position provides added support to federal TRiO Programs, which consist of two Upward Bound projects. The goal of TRiO's pre-college programs is to increase the number of low- income, potential first-generation college students to stay in school, take a rigorous curriculum, graduate from high school, and enroll in and eventually graduate from college. This position will provide administrative and programming support to the KPA-TRIO staff. This includes (but is not limited to) duties that consist of providing summer administrative support to helping KPA-TRIO staff to encourage TRIO participants to stay in the pre-college summer program, complete college applications and FAFSA forms, apply for scholarships, improve their academic and/or behavior, chaperoning field trips, monitoring college dorms sleep overs (when applicable) etc. This position is ideal for students majoring in social work, psychology, human services, education, sociology and other closely related fields.
Essential Functions:
  • Provide general assistance and support to KPA-TRIO staff and summer instructors during the 6-week summer program
  • Monitor and oversee students during overnight stay in college dorms (when applicable)
  • Perform data entry and assist with maintaining electronic and hard copy filing system as needed
  • Assist staff with keeping accurate and detailed records of services rendered to participants; Maintain strict confidentiality of participant's information in accordance with FERPA
  • Provide general administrative and clerical support including mailing, scanning, faxing, printing and copying for staff as needed
  • Assist and support KPA-TRIO staff in the office, at summer site, etc. with the planning, preparation, coordination, and implementation of services and activities such as participant workshops and group coaching sessions, classroom instruction, correspondences, general communication (telephone and email contacts), newsletters, and field trips, etc.
  • Assist with chaperoning TRIO participants on college tours, educational and cultural activities and field trips
  • Create, and/or modify documents including correspondences, program flyers, reports, drafts, memos, emails, etc.
  • Attends to and initiates calls to students and parents as needed
  • Call, send mailings, text messages, and voice recordings to participants and parents as needed
  • Manage social media accounts
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or directed.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Candidates Must:
  • Have at least 25-30 college credit hours (sophomore status) or have graduated college (applicants majoring in the helping field such as human services, education, social work, sociology, psychology or closely related fields are highly preferred)
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written) skills, as well as effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Possess sound judgment and solid decision-making skills.
  • Must be comfortable wearing professional dress attire.
  • Be able to follow directions/directives, as well as be conscientious and detailed oriented.
  • Provide excellent customer service and possess the ability to foster positive interactions with the KPA-TRIO staff, school administrators, teachers, staff, students, parents, and the general public.
  • Highly proficient in typing, filing and information technology including MS Office Suite, internet usage/research, and managing social media accounts
  • Be sensitive to the needs of a diverse population and have the ability to speak confidently in front of large groups.
  • Be a quick starter and learner and be able to take initiative.
  • Be able to communicate on the go
  • Have the ability to travel to various summer sites to provide onsite support to assist the KPA-TRIO staff serving program participates in Metropolitan Atlanta area.
  • Be able to pass a criminal background and drug test.
  • Be available in last week of May for a one (1) day orientation
