The American Immigration Council works to strengthen America by shaping how America thinks about and acts towards immigrants and immigration and by working toward a more fair and just immigration system that opens its doors to those in need of protection and unleashes the energy and skills that immigrants bring. The Council brings together individuals adept at solving problems and employs four coordinated approaches to advance changeโlitigation, research, legislative and administrative advocacy, and communications.
Position Summary
The Part-Time Habeas Project Coordinator is tasked with providing the IJC team and our pro bono attorney volunteers with administrative support of our habeas work. This will include data entry and management, volunteer coordination, and additional admin tasks as needed. This part-time contract position requires approximately 5-15 hours per week, to be worked flexibly within the requirements of IJC.
Essential Job Functions
Data entry and management (60%)
- Create and maintain updated habeas records in case database, including creating new entries, organizing relevant documents, and updating case information as requested by other IJC staff
- Filter and pull data from the database as needed
Volunteer coordination (40%)
- Provide admin support for the volunteer placement process, including email and phone follow-up with volunteers to maintain updated documents and information
- Support the interpretation/translation matching efforts for habeas cases
- Support recruitment and reengagement efforts for habeas volunteers
Requirements:
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- 2-3 years of office-based administrative experience or the equivalent, preferably involving work with a database
- Commitment to the mission of the Immigration Justice Campaign and the American Immigration Council
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with volunteers via email and phone
- Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands and multiple assignments through effective time management
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, strategies, and circumstances
- Knowledge of data entry best practices
This job is a remote position. While remote, this job operates in a professional office environment and will require the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and technology such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams. The Council will provide a laptop and other equipment needed to perform the job. Staff must supply their own office space and furniture.
