The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Vehicle Operations facility in York is our final assembly plant. Employees at York also perform a variety of manufacturing operations, including fabrication, welding, polishing and painting and produce a wide range of current and replacement parts for all models. Join our team as a Controls Engineer Associate.


Job Title: Associate, Controls Engineer (Manufacturing)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Associate Controls Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this entry-level role, you will assist in the design, programming, implementation, and troubleshooting of plant automation and process control systems. You will work closely with senior engineers to maintain operational reliability, optimize machinery, and support hardware and software integrations on the production floor. This position offers direct mentorship and an excellent career pathway into advanced automation engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Support: Assist with day-to-day troubleshooting, configuration, and maintenance of PLC and HMI control systems.
  • Logic Programming: Create and modify ladder logic programming based on functional control narratives or specifications.
  • Testing & Simulation: Validate control system software revisions and panel functionality within a lab or simulated environment before site deployment.
  • Documentation: Maintain and update crucial technical documentation, including P&IDs, wiring schematics, functional specifications, and operation manuals.
  • Network Monitoring: Help monitor process control networks and ensure automation infrastructure complies with operational technology (OT) safety standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with maintenance technicians, operations staff, and external vendors to execute equipment upgrades and fast-track line resolutions.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 0–3 years of experience in a manufacturing, processing, industrial, or internship environment.
  • Technical Familiarity: Basic understanding of major PLC environments (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI graphical configurations.
  • 480VAC three-phase electrical systems
  • 120VAC control circuits
  • 24VDC control systems
  • Schematic Literacy: Ability to read, interpret, and "red-line" electrical schematics, loop diagrams, and processing blueprints.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication capabilities for working within highly collaborative engineering teams.
  • Physical & Environmental: Ability to stand/walk on the production floor, climb stairs, and follow strict plant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.

Preferred Skills (Plus Factors)

  • Exposure to industrial network protocols such as Modbus, EtherNet/IP, or Profibus.
  • Experience drafting with computer-aided design software like AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Fundamental knowledge of industry safety codes, electrical safety standards, or NFPA 70E guidelines.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
