What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Pediatric RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Pediatric RN, you need a valid RN license, strong pediatric assessment skills, and experience in child-focused care, often supported by certifications like PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). Familiarity with pediatric EHR systems, medication administration, and age-appropriate medical equipment is typically required. Compassion, patience, and excellent communication with both children and their families are crucial soft skills. These competencies ensure safe, effective care and foster trust with young patients and their caregivers, even in part-time roles where consistency is vital.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time pediatric RNs, and how can they be managed?

Part-time pediatric RNs often face challenges such as staying updated with patient care plans and maintaining strong communication with the healthcare team due to their limited hours. To manage this, it's important to utilize thorough handoff reports, actively participate in team meetings when possible, and make use of digital charting systems to stay informed about patient progress. Building strong relationships with fellow nurses and physicians also helps ensure continuity of care and smooth transitions during shift changes.

What is a Part Time Pediatric RN?

A Part Time Pediatric RN is a registered nurse who specializes in caring for infants, children, and adolescents, but works fewer hours than a full-time nurse, typically under 30-36 hours per week. These nurses assess and monitor young patients, administer medications, assist with treatments, and educate families about health care needs. Part time positions can offer flexible schedules, making them ideal for those balancing other commitments while still providing critical pediatric care. They may work in hospitals, clinics, doctor's offices, or home health settings.

Job description

Pediatric Dental CRNA - Make a Meaningful Impact in South Carolina
Join a premier pediatric dental practice transforming how children experience dental care across South Carolina. We're seeking a compassionate, skilled CRNA to deliver exceptional anesthesia services in a rewarding environment where every day brings the satisfaction of helping young patients receive the care they need without fear or discomfort.
What Makes This Role Unique
Unlike traditional hospital settings, you'll work exclusively in specialized pediatric dental facilities designed from the ground up for children. Your 7-8 hour days follow a predictable rhythm-no emergency calls interrupting your evenings, no weekends away from family, just focused, impactful work. Whether you're seeking part-time flexibility or full-time engagement, this position adapts to your professional and personal goals.
Where You'll Practice
Our three South Carolina locations each offer distinct community advantages:
  • Greenville - Dynamic mountain-adjacent city blending outdoor recreation with urban sophistication and award-winning dining
  • Columbia - Culturally rich state capital with university energy, diverse neighborhoods, and year-round events
  • Spartanburg - Family-friendly community offering affordability, strong schools, and genuine Southern hospitality
Each location features cutting-edge facilities equipped specifically for pediatric anesthesia delivery. You'll determine your preferred practice arrangement, whether rotating among offices or anchoring at one primary location.
Your Compensation Package
  • Annual Earnings: $250,000-$270,000
  • Employment Type: 1099 independent contractor providing maximum flexibility and tax benefits
  • Time Away: Full 5 weeks of vacation annually
  • Daily Schedule: Manageable 7-8 hour shifts
  • Work Arrangement: Select part-time or full-time based on your preferences

Your Daily Impact
You'll manage the complete anesthesia continuum for pediatric dental patients-conducting thorough pre-procedure evaluations, administering appropriate sedation protocols, maintaining vigilant intraoperative monitoring, and guiding families through post-procedure recovery. Partnering with skilled pediatric dentists, you'll create calm, safe experiences for children who might otherwise go without essential dental treatment due to anxiety, behavioral challenges, or complex medical needs.
Who Thrives Here
We're looking for a certified CRNA who genuinely enjoys working with children and families. Your clinical expertise matters, but equally important is your ability to communicate reassuringly with anxious parents and connect with young patients. Office-based anesthesia experience is beneficial though not mandatory-we value dedication, strong judgment, and a patient-centered philosophy above all.
The Opportunity
This isn't just another CRNA position. It's a chance to build a sustainable career around meaningful work without sacrificing personal well-being. Trade hospital bureaucracy for professional independence while earning competitive compensation and enjoying the lifestyle benefits that drew you to healthcare in the first place.
