Job description

Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890 and is the oldest medical center in the county. The San Diego campus is located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest.

Scripps Mercy Hospital consists of two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista. 

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego’s campus includes the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery and our childbirth unit (including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit).

This is a Part-Time (40 hours per pay period), with a DAY shift schedule, on various days of the week. No weekends or holidays.

Located across our Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego Emergency Department, in our Preby’s Cancer Center (Hillcrest).

We invite you to join our highly engaged Outpatient Infusion Center team of Patient Care Assistant’s and be a key member of an outstanding clinical care team. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and provide excellent service to patients.

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides excellent service to patients as a key member of the clinical care team.

  • Assists patients with personal needs and activities of daily living, collects data, and ensures the patient has a safe, organized environment.
  • Assists with patient care within the scope permitted and under the direction of a clinician.
  • Supports the unit with a variety of patient logistic, clerical, equipment/supply, and charge reconciliation duties. 

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:

  • CNA certification.
  • Prior experience working with oncology patients/unit.
  • Inpatient experience.

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • One year of recent experience working under the license of a licensed healthcare provider OR
  • current enrollment or completion of Nursing Assistant training from a recognized school OR
  • current enrollment in an RN program with completion of the second semester, including nursing fundamentals.
  • Must be able to speak, read and follow instruction in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a service aptitude.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care provider
