Job description

Job Summary
Tutoring is an opportunity for students to get additional help as they master a subject. Tutoring may be small group or individual. Students may schedule appointments to meet with tutors face to face or online. Tutors work with students to guide to a better understanding of specific course topics, study skills, and test taking.
The position is a 10 to 15 hour per week, part-time position reporting directly to the Academic Resource Coordinator. This is a scheduled position but may require additional sessions outside of normal work hours. The work schedule is subject to change as needed. If students have other positions on campus, they must not exceed 19 total (combined) hours of work per week. Students may not work during scheduled class time, even if there is a cancellation or early dismissal. Students may not adjust schedules without permission from the Academic Resource Coordinator.
Responsibilities
  • Extends excellent customer service to faculty, staff and students
  • Maintains communication with associated professors, students, and the Academic Resource Coordinator
  • Completes no more than 5 hours of tutoring per week
  • Creates flyers advertising session times and locations
  • Conducts student surveys of session performance
  • Completes FYE training modules GSW training certification program
  • Attends semester orientation and up to 5 hours of additional training as necessary
  • Submit bi-weekly payroll documentation (sign-in information, time clock information, lesson plans)
  • Completes tasks including typing, copying, emailing and other related information processing tasks
  • Conducts online tutoring sessions as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by the Academic Resource Coordinator.
  • Maintain profile and schedule in the Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction course in Georgia View.

Required Qualifications
  • Must have taken the course previously and earned and A or B
  • Must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at Georgia Southwestern State University
  • Must possess strong customer service and communication skills
  • Must have two academic references
