Job description

Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides occupational health support within the paper mill facility by promoting employee wellness, administering first aid and medical care, assisting with health surveillance programs, and supporting compliance with occupational health an safety regulations. The LPN works closely with the Occupational Health Nurse/Manager and the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team to ensure a safe and healthy workplace. 

Schedule: Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 12:00pm (20 hours per week). 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Care & First Aid
    • Provide immediate care for work-related injuries and illnesses, including triage, wound care, medication administration (per standing orders), and emergency response.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records of employee encounters.
    • Assist with arranging referrals and follow-up care with physicians or specialists.
  • Occupational Health Support
    • Conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, blood pressure, glucose, etc.) and monitor chronic health conditions of employees as appropriate.
    • Participate in employee health surveillance programs (e.g., hearing conservation, respiratory fit testing, audiograms).
    • Support case management for workplace injuries, including return-to-work assessments
    • Perform Drug Screening
    • Perform Pulmonary Fit Test
    • Assist with AED compliance
    • Perform Fit testing
    • Assist with training of onsite EMR’s
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Assist in compliance with OSHA, state, and company health and safety regulations.
    • Maintain documentation and logs required for workplace injury/illness reporting.
    • Support implementation of workplace wellness and safety initiatives.
  • Health Promotion & Education
    • Provide health education on injury prevention, ergonomics, substance use, and wellness.
    • Promote vaccination programs (influenza, tetanus, etc.).
    • Participate in safety meetings and health-related training for employees.
  • Collaboration
    • Work alongside the Occupational Health Nurse, Safety Manager, and HR in employee health and wellness initiatives.
    • Act as a liaison between employees, healthcare providers, and management.
  • Performs additional duties and assumes additional responsibilities as identified by supervisor for the efficient operation of Client Operations.
  • May involve rotating shifts or on-call responsibilities depending on facility needs.

Education and Experience

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a valid LPN license in the state of Mississippi.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification required.
  • Occupational Health Nursing certification preferred, not required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience (occupational health, emergency, urgent care, or industrial setting preferred).
  • Experience with first aid, triage, and case management is an asset.
Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to manage medical emergencies in an industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace health standards preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Must have the ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.

Computer Skills
  • Must be competent in the Windows operating system environment, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and learn other software as needed.
Physical Demands
  • Requires sitting for long periods of time, working at a desk.   
  • Some bending and stretching could be required.  
  • Working under stress and use of computer/phone required.   
  • Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard.  
  • Occasionally may be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and/or crouch.   
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.  
Work Environment
  • On-site industrial environment with potential exposure to heat, humidity, dust, noise, and industrial equipment.
  • Requires wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

This position has an hourly pay range of $28-$30 per hour. Final compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and qualifications.
