Description

The OST Educator at the Montachusett Community Branch YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families. Under the supervision of the School Aged Child Care Director, the OST Educator plans and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum geared to the needs of each child in his/her care/classroom/program, including the health & safety of the children and adherence to all YMCA Child Protection policies.ย 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises a group of children and program activities.
  • Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies); all MA Department of EE&C regulations; maintains the program site, equipment; and required program records.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming; plans activities that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes, are culturally relevant, are developmentally appropriate, and are consistent with the Y's values.
  • Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.
  • Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child's needs and progress; connects families to the Y.
  • Project a professional image, including neat appearance, positive manner and dependable attendance and be a role model for children, families and other staff.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children (at least 6 months) required.
  • Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required; or within 60 days of hire.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.


Job Type: Part-Time

Schedule: Looking to fill both AM (6:30-8:45am) and PM (2-5pm) shifts. Please let us know your availability when filling out your application!
