Nelsons Bus Service is Hiring School Bus Drivers in McFarland, WI!

​Part Time

Earn $24.50 Per Hour

Valid Wisconsin CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements preferred (training provided if other requirements are met)


Position Overview

The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students and authorized passengers according to assigned schedules and routes. Drivers must operate vehicles professionally, communicate effectively with passengers and management, and maintain strong attention to safety and customer service.

This role reports directly to the Terminal Manager and may require occasional reporting to alternate company locations as needed.


Schedule: Part-time hours determined by operational needs. Must be flexible for schedule changes due to unexpected events.

Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Transportation & Safety
  • Safely transport students and authorized passengers along assigned routes and schedules
  • Follow all Wisconsin traffic laws and CDL regulations
  • Pick up and discharge passengers only at approved stops
  • Maintain a safe, professional, and courteous environment for all passengers
  • Address passenger misconduct appropriately and report incidents to management
Passenger Assistance
  • Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the bus as needed
  • Safely operate wheelchair ramps and mobility equipment
  • Secure wheelchairs and mobility devices according to company procedures
  • Communicate safety instructions clearly to passengers
Vehicle Operation & Inspection
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Check fuel, oil, tires, water, lights, and vehicle systems before operation
  • Monitor heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort
  • Report delays, accidents, vehicle issues, and maintenance needs immediately
  • Complete mileage, fuel, maintenance, and inspection reports accurately and on time
Customer Service & Communication
  • Maintain professional communication with:
    • Students
    • Parents
    • Dispatchers
    • Terminal Managers
    • General public
  • Respond professionally to customer concerns and complaints
  • Adapt to route changes, delays, weather conditions, and unexpected situations

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement and School Bus endorsement preferred.
  • CDL training may be provided for qualified candidates who meet hiring requirements
  • Ability to pass:
    • DOT physical examination
    • Drug and alcohol screening
    • Background check
    • Driving record review
  • Strong safety awareness and customer service skills
  • Ability to read route maps, instructions, and safety information
  • Ability to complete basic written reports and documentation
