The Children’s Center of Hamden is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our medical team on the 3rd shift. In this essential role, you will coordinate and provide medical care for children and adolescents in our programs, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being in a safe and supportive environment. Working under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor and Director of Nursing Services, you will serve as a key member of our interdisciplinary treatment team—providing assessment, treatment, and support that help our youth thrive.

What You’ll Do

As a Registered Nurse – 3rd Shift, you will:

  • Coordinate and provide direct nursing care to children and adolescents within your assigned program.
  • Conduct nursing assessments, triage health issues, and coordinate medical appointments.
  • Administer and document medications per agency policy and state/federal guidelines.
  • Supervise and support LPNs, Medical Assistants, and Medication Certified Staff.
  • Assist medical providers (MDs, PAs, APRNs) during physical exams and other procedures.
  • Respond to and assess clients involved in physical restraints, performing both mental status and physical assessments.
  • Complete and maintain accurate medical documentation, charts, and electronic health records.
  • Provide health education and guidance to clients and staff.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment teams to support holistic client care.
  • Uphold safety standards and infection control procedures to maintain a healthy environment.
  • Participate in training, staff meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and commitment to the mission of The Children’s Center of Hamden.
What We’re Looking For
  • Valid Connecticut Registered Nurse (RN) license (required).
  • Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in Nursing.
  • At least two years of related experience, ideally with a pediatric or behavioral health population.
  • Strong assessment, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical, psychiatric, and behavioral health care principles.
  • Ability to work independently on 3rd shift while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Compassion, reliability, and sensitivity to a culturally diverse population.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health records.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to perform light to moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs.), stand, walk, and bend throughout the shift.
  • Comfort working in a residential or clinical care environment with potential exposure to heat, noise, cleaning chemicals, and bodily fluids.
  • Adherence to all safety and infection control protocols.
