The International African American Museum (IAAM) is seeking an enthusiastic, customer-focused Visitor Experience Café Associate to support the daily operations of our café and contribute to an exceptional guest experience. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging with people, preparing quality food and beverages, and working in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

As a Café Associate, you will prepare and serve specialty coffee beverages, food items, and Southern-inspired treats while providing outstanding hospitality to museum visitors. You will play a key role in creating a welcoming atmosphere and ensuring the café remains clean, organized, and inviting.

Join the International African American Museum (IAAM) café team and help create memorable experiences for every guest. We’re looking for a friendly, dependable, and service-focused team member who enjoys hospitality, teamwork, and working in a dynamic environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Welcome guests, explain menu offerings, and provide friendly, attentive service.
  • Take and accurately process food and beverage orders and payments.
  • Prepare specialty coffees, teas, cold and blended beverages, and other café offerings.
  • Serve baked goods, desserts, parfaits, banana pudding, and Southern-inspired specialties.
  • Customize orders while maintaining high standards for quality, presentation, and consistency.
  • Keep café stations, dining areas, equipment, and workspaces clean, organized, and well stocked.
  • Monitor inventory, receive and organize supplies, and assist with inventory counts.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health requirements.
  • Collaborate with museum staff, volunteers, and fellow team members to support daily operations and special events.
What We’re Looking For
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication, listening, organizational, and basic math skills.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable, professional, team-oriented, and committed to guest satisfaction.
  • Comfortable handling cash, credit cards, and POS transactions.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Availability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, special events, and occasional extended hours.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous barista, café, food service, or hospitality experience.
  • Experience with POS systems.
  • Experience working with diverse audiences in a customer-facing role.
  • ServSafe certification, or willingness to obtain certification.
