Food Scientist

About the company

Deep Foods is one of the leading manufacturers of Indian foods. Since 1977, it has been tantalizing the taste buds of Indian food lovers. Using authentic recipes, Deep Foods offers delicious snacks, frozen meals, ice creams and other specialties.

Overview
The Food Scientist will fill a key compliance position within a growing manufacturing company which produces under both FDA and USDA jurisdiction. The individual will lead in the maintenance of current food safety and quality system, coordinate tasks among departments to identify, solve and prevent problems affecting product quality, maximize productivity, and comply with customer and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Standard Hours: 10 AM – 6:00 PM but flexible.

This is not a remote position.

 

Office related

·         Keep food safety system, policies, procedure, SOPs, SSOPs and forms updated and ready for third party audits

·         Collect and conduct verification activities for QA and operation documents

·         Conduct research to ensure product compliance

·         Work with purchasing review supplier documents, monitoring supplier performance, maintain & update raw material & finish product specs

·         Work with R&D to review and approve labels

Plant related

·         Conduct audit and follow up audit finding

·         Investigate customer complaint

·         Conduct food safety related training for staff from different departments

Lab related

·         Plan and execute validation activities for new and existing products and processes

·         Manage environmental sampling program

·         Conduct sampling, testing, and carry out investigation activities as needed

·         Maintain and update lab related procedures

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualification

·         Master in food science, food safety, biology or other related field required.

·         Knowledge of relevant food safety legislation, HACCP and SQF preferred

·         Previous USDA/FDA experience preferred

·         1-3 years Industrial QA experience preferred

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills is required

·         Proficient in Microsoft office software is required

·         Shall be a quick learner and enthusiastic

·         Shall be a team player and flexible

·         Shall be a problem solver

·         Shall be proactive and self-motivated

·         Shall be detail orientated and organized

·         Shall be able to work independently with minimal supervision

·         Shall be able to manage multiple projects and activities at one time

·         Ability to stand/be on one's feet for extended periods of time while working in lab or plant
