Job Summary
The Center for Career Coaching at Columbus State University is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and student-focused individuals to serve as Peer Career Advisors (PCAs) for the 2026¿2027 academic year. This part-time student leadership position offers the opportunity to help fellow students prepare for career success while gaining valuable professional experience in coaching, communication, leadership, and career development.
Peer Career Advisors serve as the first point of contact for many students seeking career support. After completing a comprehensive training program, PCAs provide peer coaching on resumes, cover letters, internship and job search strategies, LinkedIn, and other career readiness topics. They also support career programming, outreach initiatives, and special projects that advance the Center's mission of preparing students for meaningful careers.
Responsibilities
Peer Career Advisors will:
  • Provide peer coaching to Columbus State University students on:
    • Resume development
    • Cover letter writing
    • Internship and job search strategies
    • LinkedIn profile development
    • Professional communication
    • Career Closet resources
  • Serve as a knowledgeable ambassador for Handshake and other career resources.
  • Welcome students and assist with administrative operations as needed.
  • Conduct classroom presentations and workshops on career-related topics.
  • Assist with Career Fairs, networking events, employer engagement activities, and other Center programs.

Opportunities to include:
  • Support the Career Closet by organizing inventory and assisting students with professional attire.
  • Create marketing and promotional materials for events and services.
  • Assist with social media content creation and engagement.
  • Help maintain website content and digital resources.
  • Collect and organize student engagement, assessment, and career outcome data.
  • Participate in ongoing staff meetings, professional development, and training.
  • Complete additional projects that support the mission of the Center for Career Coaching.

Required Qualifications
Applicants must:
  • Be currently enrolled as a student at Columbus State University and completed at least one semester with the university.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Communicate professionally both in person and through email.
  • Be dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple responsibilities
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Learn quickly and apply feedback effectively.
  • Think critically and solve problems independently.
  • Maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive student information.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to students who have:

  • Experience using Handshake or LinkedIn.

Proposed Salary
  • $12.00 per hour.
  • Up to 12 hours per week.
