What are part-time NAU students?

Part-time NAU students are individuals enrolled at Northern Arizona University (NAU) who take fewer credits per semester than required for full-time status, typically less than 12 undergraduate credits or 9 graduate credits. Being a part-time student allows for greater flexibility, often appealing to those balancing work, family, or other commitments. Part-time students still have access to many campus resources and services, but their tuition, financial aid eligibility, and time to graduation may differ from full-time students.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part-Time NAU Student, and why are they important?

To succeed as a part-time Northern Arizona University (NAU) student, you need strong time management, self-motivation, and academic readiness, typically demonstrated by meeting university admission requirements. Familiarity with digital learning platforms such as Blackboard Learn, access to email, and library databases is essential. Excellent communication, organization, and adaptability help students balance coursework with other responsibilities and make the most of available resources. These skills are vital for maintaining academic progress, engaging effectively in classes, and achieving educational goals while managing a part-time schedule.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time NAU students balancing work and academic responsibilities?

Part-time NAU students often juggle multiple commitments, such as jobs, family obligations, and coursework. One common challenge is effective time management—finding enough hours for studying while meeting work shifts and personal responsibilities. Communication with professors and supervisors is key to accommodating deadlines or work schedules. Many students also find that proactively using campus resources, like academic advising and tutoring, helps them stay on track and succeed in both their academic and professional pursuits.
