Job Summary

EMCOR Government Services is seeking a part-time Floor Specialist at our National Archives and Records Administration (NARA II) project Monday- Friday 6:00pm - 10:00pm in College Park, MD (NARA II). This is a SEIU, Local 32BJ-represented position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing and buffing the floor surfaces of commercial buildings.
  • Perform floor maintenance/care activities on various floor surfaces such as terrazzo, marble, granite, tile, other hard surfaces, hardwood, and carpet.
  • Performing cleaning tasks and special projects
  • Cleaning, maintaining, and storing equipment and PPE proficiently.
  • Keeping an inventory of floor areas, and scheduling cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Measuring chemicals correctly
  • Follow all health and safety regulations
  • Follow proper cleaning procedures and safety guidelines
  • Notify supervisor of any maintenance or repair needs
  • Physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks and lift heavy objects including moving furniture before and after cleaning, if required
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in facilities maintenance or commercial cleaning preferred
  • Proven working experience as a janitor or floor technician (2 yr experience)
  • Follow all health and safety regulations
  • Familiarity with SDS
  • Ability to handle equipment and machinery
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents in English.
  • Must be able to communicate with supervisors and co-workers
  • Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk for extended periods; use hands to finger, handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms; talks or hear and test or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and handle
  • All these requirements are necessary for using ladders and stairs, cleaning low areas, high areas, benches, and corners
  • Must be able to lift/carry 50 pounds and push/pull 50 pounds in order to clean work areas and handle supplies and equipment
  • Work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
