About The Position:
Successful candidates will teach course(s) and collaborate with staff and faculty at the Plattsburgh main campus in the department of Human Development and Family Relations (HDFR). The HDFR Department prepares students to address issues that affect human living and development, and to work in various human services professions that support the wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities. A variety of human development courses are offered that allow the needs and interests of students to be developed both in the classroom and through flexible, real-world observations and experiential learning opportunities. Our program integrates extensive field experiences and critical pedagogy, including the multidisciplinary study of biological, social, and psychological factors that impact people across the lifespan. As a department, we work to ensure that our program remains highly relevant and will allow our students a broad range of career opportunities in a diverse and changing global society.
As SUNY Plattsburgh is an institution that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners, the successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity, inclusion, and equity-minded policies, programs and practices. Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Human Development, Family Science, or other closely related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Record of participation in service-related activities
  • Experience teaching classes in a distance learning format
  • Curriculum development experience
  • Teaching experience in human development related courses at the collegiate level
  • Experience advising students through the lens of a student-centered, growth mindset
