About us:

What do we need:

The primary responsibility of the Part-time Youth Engagement Program Associate is to plan and implement educational and recreational activities for youth in grades K–6 within a small classroom setting. Additionally, this role supports the planning and facilitation of events and programming for youth in grades 5–12. Program implementation focuses on providing enriching, trauma-informed opportunities for children and teens staying with People Serving People

We are seeking creative and committed individuals who:

  • Have a strong understanding of trauma-informed principles and how to apply them in educational and youth development settings.
  • Possess expertise in fostering foundational learning and supporting academic and social-emotional development.
  • Are skilled in implementing positive behavior support strategies in a fast-paced, dynamic after-school environment.
  • Create an inclusive, structured, and supportive atmosphere that promotes safety, respect, and meaningful engagement for all participants.
  • Demonstrate interest or experience in working with youth in areas such as literacy, behavior management, social-emotional learning, sports and recreation, project-based learning, restorative justice, and community development.

Responsibilities:

Teaching:

  • Support program by assisting in planning, facilitating, managing, and implementing activities in an after-school classroom and recreational setting.
  • Understand the social-emotional & developmental needs of youth and apply this knowledge to program activities.
  • Utilize effective classroom management techniques to maintain a healthy and productive environment.
  • Recognize the impact of toxic stress and trauma on children and their families and implement trauma-informed practices in the classroom based on established frameworks.
  • Provide basic first aid and care for sick children as needed.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with families.
  • Ensure a clean and organized classroom environment through daily cleaning and sanitizing tasks.

Administration:

  • Collaborate with People Serving People programs and staff as necessary.
  • Regularly evaluate programs for variety, suitability, participation levels, and overall quality.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, program documentation, and statistical data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Assist with meal and snack preparation.
  • Attend special events with external community partners, which may occur on weeknights or Fridays (as late as 9:00 p.m.).

Pay and Benefits:

  • $25.00 per hour

Requirements:

Education/Experience Required: 

  • Prior experience in planning and teaching in a classroom or after school program setting. Knowledge of child development, education, social science, child psychology, behavioral sciences, recreation, or related areas. 

Computer Skills: 

  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft applications. Ability to navigate virtual meetings, events, trainings, and tasks. 

Other Qualifications:  

  • Two or more years of experience serving multi-cultural, socially diverse population desired.
  • Two or more years of experience working with children and teens is required. 
  • First aid and CPR certified or willing to be certified.
  • Comfortable teaching in multiple classrooms and locations when needed.
