Responsibilities
  • Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values
  • Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality
  • Participates in the evaluation of environmental and safety issues and intervenes appropriately
  • Assists with orientation of new employees as assigned
  • Requires minimal supervision to safely perform essential functions
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics when moving equipment that is necessary to perform essential functions
  • Maintains clean work area with appropriate forms and supplies
  • Responds to call lights and promptly relays information to the appropriate nursing personnel
  • Acknowledges the presence of staff, physicians and visitors at the nursing station
  • Runs errands to support the needs of the unit
  • Processes requests and orders during computer downtime
  • Checks unit census and updates condition codes
  • Utilizes personal computer or terminal to access the Hospital Information Systems
  • Utilizes the Hospital Information System to enter requests for unit maintenance and repair
  • Schedule and coordinates diagnostic procedures and continued care/follow up appointments
  • Order supplies and unit inventory
  • Enter physician orders accurately and in a timely manner
  • Process patient charges
  • Check unit census and updates condition codes
  • Complete patient transfers and discharges
  • update patient diet needs daily on HIS
  • Replenishes chart stationary
  • Serves as receptionist
  • Answers the telephone in a prompt and courteous manner
  • Performs general clerical duties
  • Prepares unit admission packs
  • Monitors patients' charts frequently for signed MD orders
  • Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone
  • Responds to overhead pages
  • Notifies Charge Nurse when leaving unit
  • Maintains accurate and complete records by posting all forms and reports in correct order
  • Updates Kardex as needed and completes orders by forwarding forms utilizing the FAX machine
  • Performs chart reduction
  • Maintains a neat and properly ordered chart
  • Prepares chart for Medical Records upon discharge
  • Completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements
  • Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job
  • Adheres to Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Keeps unit material/flow sheets stocked
  • Keeps unit desk free of clutter at all times
  • transcribes delivery information from the medical records into the delivery register
  • Processes laboratory samples for analysis in a prompt and accurate manner
  • Enters patient charges on a daily basis
  • Participates on committees as assigned
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned
