LJB Inc. is a fast-growing national engineering firm specializing in civil and structural engineering and geospatial, safety, health, and environmental services. The firm has a 50+ year history of leveraging new technologies to drive innovation and bring unique and sustainable value to our clients.
We are seeking candidates to fill the position of a Part-time CAD Designer to join our team in South Portland, Maine. The CAD Designer is responsible for preparing and drafting accurate, high-quality CAD deliverables. This is an office-based position requiring a foundation in plan and graphics production, combined with a proficiency in CAD drafting and data processing. This position will include drafting efforts to support other practices and groups within LJB.
As a CAD Designer, you will support civil engineering and survey projects by producing accurate, high-quality design drawings and technical deliverables. This role is ideal for someone with strong Civil 3D skills who enjoys detail-oriented work, cross-functional collaboration, and contributing to projects from concept through completion.
Hourly Pay Range: $20 - $36 /hr based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

CAD DESIGNER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
CAD Drafting & Deliverables:
  • Draft and refine site, grading, drainage and utility plans, along with plan/profiles and detail sheets using Civil 3D.
  • Occasionally perform cut-fill and mass balancing analysis utilizing AutoCAD Earthworks
  • Maintain and update survey point databases, surfaces, data shortcuts, profiles, and cross-sections within Civil 3D.
  • Utilize and manage a standardized field code library, ensuring consistent layering, symbology, and linework across all projects.
  • Perform quality control checks on outgoing CAD deliverables to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • In supporting our survey department, occasionally Draft and refine topographic maps, ALTA surveys, construction staking plans, boundary plats, and as-built drawings using Civil 3D.

Communication & Coordination:
  • Work closely with licensed engineers, project surveyors, and design/production staff, to ensure project deliverables meet applicable standards.
  • Maintain organized project records, metadata, and archive structures.
  • Participate in cross-office coordination meetings to align data formats, templates, and workflows.
  • Desire to innovate and solve difficult problems from inception to final deliverable
  • Other Duties as assigned

CAD DESIGNER ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:
Required Qualifications:
  • CAD design experience and AutoCAD Civil 3D experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in office-based data processing.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree
  • CAD production experience
  • Microsoft Excel experience with advanced data manipulation and file conversion.
