Ensures the efficient and accurate operation of the City's court by performing clerical duties in a timely and adequate manner.
This is a part-time, temporary position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class; employees may be assigned duties which are not listed below; reasonable accommodations will be made as required. The job description does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Reviews and processes performed community service hours or non-cash requests; ensures information is recorded in multi-data systems.
  • Provides quality customer service to Municipal Court customers by explaining court procedures and driver's safety courses.
  • Assists the public in person and by phone and may interpret for Spanish-speaking defendants.
  • Records and processes mail.
  • Ensures the effective coordination of Municipal Court operations to team and other City departments by communicating effectively on problems and issues.
  • Responsible for warrant administration by sending notices, preparing court documents recalling warrants as necessary, and ensuring accurate information is sent to DPS for the Failure to Appear program.
  • Responsible for accurate court disposition and fine records by collecting payments, posting correctly to the court system, and balancing a cash drawer and depositing collections, following the established cashiering procedures; records and processes mail.
  • Captures documents in a document imaging system to maximize productivity and provide efficient retrieval of information.
  • Assists with the coordination of docket processing by setting and reviewing case information, sending notices, preparing summons or subpoenas, preparing court documents, and providing assistance to judge and prosecutor.
  • Executes and transcribes court dockets and records dispositions.
  • Acts as liaison between police, jail, and judge to make arrangements for the judge to provide magistration to persons jailed on MC warrants.
  • Stays abreast of legislature and court procedures and training related to court duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, training, and Experience Guidelines
  • High school diploma or equivalent. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • One (1) year of full-time experience as a court clerk in a computerized system.
  • Must obtain a Court Clerk Certificate within one (1) year.

Knowledge of:
  • Clerical procedures of processing, recording, and preparing legal documents, records, and reports related to court operations.
  • City ordinances, court procedures, and legislation pertinent to clerical work

Skill in:
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, outside agencies, and the general public.
  • Using computers and related software programs.
  • Exercising discretion in confidential matters.
  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Reads TMCEC clerk manual, memoranda, legislation, and educational materials.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid Class "C" Texas driver's license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.
HIRING RANGE: $17.49 - $21.91, hourly.
