Minimum Qualifications and Credentials Required:
  1. Educational: A minimum of sixty (60) credits from an accredited college/university. Bachelors' degree preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree, license, or certificate in education or librarianship.
  2. Skills and Knowledge: Must have ability to relate well and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals including students, staff, and parents. Must have the ability to effectively use and understand a variety of digital tools and technologies. Must have a passion for reading and research and understand the importance of independent reading, information literacy, and school library programming.
  3. Experience: Work experience in a library or school setting preferred.

Primary Function:
The Library/Media Paraprofessional works in partnership with the CPCSC Library/Media Coordinator to provide library programming and instruction and maintain and circulate a quality collection of materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Build positive, collaborative relationships with Library/Media Coordinator, classroom teachers, building staff, and other Library/Media Paraprofessionals.
  • Plan and provide daily instruction and activities based on current standards and curriculum.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers on research projects and instruct students on online search strategies and evaluation of information sources.
  • Display a familiarity with the scope of print and digital resources available to students and staff.
  • Promote the use of the Destiny Discover online catalog.
  • Promote a love of reading through effective signage, dynamic shelving, and physical and digital book displays.
  • Use a variety of readers' advisory strategies to help students develop self-selection skills.
  • Develop and promote library programming including passive programs and library orientations.
  • Follow CPCSC Collection Development Guidelines for selection of school library materials, collection maintenance, and reconsideration of library materials.
  • Work with building treasurer to generate library orders and maintain library budgets.
  • Catalog and process new books and other library materials.
  • Circulate library materials to students and staff.
  • Follow CPCSC Administrative Guidelines for Library/Media Overdue, Lost, and Damaged Books.
  • Mend and repair damaged books as needed.
  • Shelve and straighten books and other circulating materials.
  • Maintain school/classroom schedule as developed by building leadership.
  • Utilize effective classroom management strategies that include routines and procedures to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
  • Provide classroom teacher with regular updates on class conduct and performance and individual student behavior as needed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Follett Destiny library management system.
  • Generate circulation, collection, facility use, and other reports as requested by supervisor.
  • Participate in in-service training programs and professional meetings and seek out other professional learning experiences.
  • Assist building treasurer with Chromebook collection and distribution as needed.
  • Adhere to the Policies and Guidelines of the School Board as well as school rules and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
