Job description

Position Information
Position Title Part-Time Adjunct Faculty- General Chemistry (Part Time) Job Summary
The Evergreen State College seeks a part time faculty member to teach a year-long sequence of courses in general chemistry with lab in academic year 2026/27. Experience with student centered pedagogy is highly desirable. Prior experience teaching STEM fields to diverse and underserved students, including returning adults, is also desirable. The lab sections of the courses will be taught in person; lectures may be in-person or remote. The courses will be located within Evergreen's Professional and Continuing Education program and will be scheduled to be taught in the evenings or on weekends.
Job Expectations
Most faculty will teach in full-time, team-taught, 16-credit programs connected by a particular theme or line of inquiry. Faculty are generally responsible for evaluating 25 students/quarter, though their programs may include up to 50-75 students, depending on the size of their teaching team. This arrangement allows for in-depth, interdisciplinary and experiential learning, and the building of strong learning communities. Faculty are also responsible for advising students as they reflect on their learning process, develop a pathway of study, and formulate their own areas of concentration.
Our teaching is student-centered, which means we are interested in helping students develop strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaborative work. Because over 80% of our students come from underserved and marginalized groups, we are particularly invested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity and equity, that provide opportunities for challenge and growth, and that foster a learning environment where all are welcome and all can learn from each other.
This is an adjunct faculty position and not eligible for continuing appointment. All requirements for the position must be completed at the time of hire. Salary for all positions is based on experience and degrees (see Salary Grid for more information). We do not offer relocation expenses for our adjunct faculty positions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in chemistry or related field
  • College-level teaching experience in chemistry including lab
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with diverse and underserved populations of students

Full time/Part time Part Time Salary Information RANGE: $6,071-$12,542 per quarter at 0.375 FTE (e.g. $9546 per quarter at median EY of 20 for recent hires). Faculty membership is unranked with salary determined on a non-competitive, open scale based on earned degrees and years of relevant experience.
